For many of you receiving this note, Foundation Center may seem like a far-off collection of websites (like!) and databases (like Foundation Directory Online (FDO)!). But what excites me most about Foundation Center is that it’s also a place. And I’m not just talking about our regional offices. We’re also in more than 400 Funding Information Network (FIN) partner organizations around the United States and internationally, too.

So what can you -- a nonprofit startup, grantseeker, or philanthropist -- do at one of our partner locations? First and foremost, you can dig into funding data. All of our FIN partners provide access to FDO Professional at no cost to you -- this means you can make a quick prospect list, or take FDO for a test-drive before making it a permanent part of your fundraising toolkit.

But of course, it’s not just about going somewhere to get online -- it’s about connecting face-to-face with a professional who can help you find information and get one step closer to your goals. Our FIN leads are members of your community: librarians, prospect researchers, professors, board members, and seasoned nonprofiteers. They can help you leverage our tools, but also connect you with your local nonprofit ecosystem.

An exciting new development of our network is in the introduction of our Training partner locations. We now have 13 (with more on the way) FIN partners certified to deliver Foundation Center’s core curriculum, covering topics like proposal writing, project budgets, fundraising planning, and corporate giving.
