Is your nonprofit organization interested in partnering with a corporations? One way nonprofits team up with for-profit companies is by conducting fundraising activities. Often, corporations sell a product or service and give a part of the proceeds to the nonprofit. Did you know that many states, including Georgia, have laws regulating these promotions? In this class, we will cover the best way to structure sponsorship benefits. You will also learn the difference between corporate sponsorship and advertising income.

By the end of this class you will be able to:

  • Understand requirements in Georgia for cause marketing promotions
  • Determine what your cause agreement with the for-profit needs to include
  • Assess what disclosures you need to include in your cause promotional materials
  • Judge what qualifies corporate sponsorship under the Internal Revenue Code
  • Discern what benefits you can give sponsors that will not make the income taxable
  • Avoid benefits that will trigger Unrelated Business Income Tax
  • Consider other options corporate contributors have
