You are either in the midst of creating your Strategic Plan or you have one in place that you’re not sure has the buy-in it needs. How can you get your team behind the actions that need to be taken to achieve your goals?

This session will introduce a tool you can use to road test your strategies using carefully crafted scenarios based on stakeholder personas.  We will walk through how you can develop a powerful facilitated session for different stakeholder groups including:

  • Board
  • Development
  • Marketing
  • Programming

Say, for instance, that one of your goals of your Strategic Plan is to get your Board more engaged.  One scenario that we will run through is how we engage with the Board before and after your annual gala.  See example scenario below:

Exercise #1: Engaging the Board
Four Personas / Four Touch Points / Two Timeframes
  1. Long-time Board member who has limited time to assist
  2. New Board member who is eager to help but may need guidance
  3. Connected Board member who has key fundraising sources
  4. Subject-Matter Expert (SME) Board member who has few connections
Touch Points: 
  1. In-person interactions at Board meetings
  2. Asking for assistance via email
  3. Participating in events
  4. Calling to solicit input and/or assistance
  1. How to engage before the annual gala
  2. How to engage after the annual gala

Now imagine a similar exercise with other elements of your Strategic Plan.  Our session will take you through how you craft these scenarios and organize the working meetings to make the exercise a success.


About the Presenter:

Robin Yates is a seasoned business executive who has taken her 26+ years in the commercial world and applied it to nonprofits and government agencies in the arts, healthcare and social justice fields.  Her practice, Yates Advisory LLC, specializes in the areas of strategic planning, developing partnerships, program design and implementation, managing transitions, and executive coaching.  Robin is also an Affiliate Consultant for the Support Center, a nonprofit capacity building resource.
